1941: Counter Attack leaderboard

On UsuArcade, 1941: Counter Attack plays as online 2-player co-op: you on your phone or PC, your buddy on theirs, in the same game and in real time. It's the Capcom plane shooter that brought the 1942 and 1943 series to the CPS1 board: richer colors, bigger stages and bosses that fill the screen.

It's got its own cabinet in the arcade, running the original ROM, right next to 1942 and 1943. Sit down, drop a coin and take off right in your browser.

History

Capcom released 1941: Counter Attack in 1990, three years after 1943. It was the third game in the series and the first on the CPS1 board, the same hardware as Final Fight and Street Fighter II.

It swaps the Pacific for Europe and the Atlantic: a naval base, a fortified zone, the Atlantic, the city, an air battle and the final battle. Your first mission's target is the battleship Bismarck.

How to play

The stick moves your plane and one button fires. There are no lives: you get a VITAL bar and every hit knocks off part of it. Once it's empty, the next hit shoots you down.

The other button fires your special attack, which gets you out of a jam at the cost of one VITAL bar. Shooting down squadrons drops power-ups for your guns.

If you get shot down, you've got 20 seconds to keep going with another coin and START, and you keep your points.

Fun facts

  • It's the third game in the 1942 series and the first on the CPS1 board.
  • Like 1943, it trades lives for a vitality bar.
  • Player two can jump in at any point in the game.

In the arcade

Just like at the arcade, only from your own couch: grab the 1941: Counter Attack cabinet, invite your friend when they show up in the arcade and fly together, each with your own plane. They can jump in even after you've started. Nothing to install: it runs in your browser, on phone or PC, controllers welcome, and every game starts with INSERT COIN, free.

Everyone else in the arcade can drop in to watch live, and your scores go up on the arcade's high score boards. Right next door you'll find 1942 and 1943: The Battle of Midway.
