On UsuArcade, Gunforce is played online in 2 player co-op: you on your phone or PC and your buddy on theirs, in the same game and in real time, each with your own soldier.
It's an old-school run and gun: you push through the jungle blasting everything that moves, swap guns with whatever you find and fight your way past tanks, choppers and enemy troops all the way to the island's fortress.
History
Gunforce came out from Irem in 1991, subtitled «Battle Fire Engulfed Terror Island». It runs on Irem's M92 board, the same one behind In the Hunt and its own sequel, Gunforce 2.
Part of the team behind Gunforce 2 later went on to make Metal Slug, and you can feel the family resemblance. The version on UsuArcade is «Gunforce - Battle Fire Engulfed Terror Island (World)» from MAME 0.239.
How to play
The stick moves your soldier and aims: push up to fire skyward and down to crouch. Z fires and X jumps. The weapons you pick up change your shot, and the TIME clock up top shows how long you've got.
You start with three lives. Lose them all and you've got about 10 seconds to keep going with another coin and START. In co-op, your buddy can jump in at any point with their own coin and START while you keep playing.
Play Gunforce with a friend
Gunforce is a co-op game: you both play at the same time on the same team, each from your own home, like you're side by side at the same cabinet.
- Head into the UsuArcade arcade and send your friend the link so they can join you.
- Take a seat at the Gunforce cabinet.
- Invite them from the cabinet's player panel: once they accept, they jump into your game and play from their own home, in the same game as you.
Controls: keyboard or gamepad on a PC; on-screen touch controls on your phone.

- Its sequel, Gunforce 2, came out in 1994 and was called Geo Storm in Japan.

In the arcade
Just like the arcade, but from home: grab a seat at the Gunforce cabinet, invite your buddy when they show up in the arcade and push across the island together, each with your own soldier. Nothing to install: it runs in the browser, on your phone or PC, gamepad included, and every game starts with INSERT COIN, for free.
Your buddy can jump in even after you've started. While you play you can talk over game voice chat, everyone else in the arcade can drop in to watch, and your scores go up on the arcade's high score boards.
