Your green-haired boxer, seen see-through from behind, takes on huge opponents. Each one has his own fakes and his own weak spot: dodge, duck and hit him right when he drops his guard.
History
Super Punch-Out!! is the sequel to Punch-Out!!, released by Nintendo in arcades in 1985 in the same dual-monitor cabinet. Its big new move was ducking under punches by pulling the knob on the joystick.
The version on UsuArcade is «Super Punch-Out!! (Rev B)» from MAME 0.239.
How to play
The stick dodges left and right and blocks when you pull it down. Z throws a left and X a right: to the body, or to the head if you hold the stick up. C is the K.O. punch, which only works when the meter is full, and A makes you duck. On your phone you get the stick and four buttons on screen.
When you start, the machine lets you enter your initials. You have to knock out each opponent before time runs out. Lose a bout and you've got a few seconds to drop in another coin and call for a REMATCH, keeping your score.
Fun facts
- The opponents on the K.O. TIME board are Bear Hugger, Dragon Chan, Vodka Drunkenski, Great Tiger and Super Macho Man.
- The machine says it in the attract mode: «NEW FEATURE: PULL THE KNOB OF CONTROL AND DUCK PUNCHES».
- The factory high score on the BEST SCORE board is 88,700 points.
- Super Macho Man came back years later in Punch-Out!! on the NES.
In the arcade
Super Punch-Out!! is a one-player game, but you never play alone: anyone in the arcade can jump in as a spectator and watch you box live, with the machine's real picture and sound, and chat with you over game voice. Nothing to install: it runs in your browser, gamepads work too, and every game starts with a free INSERT COIN.
Your scores go on the arcade's leaderboards, so there's always someone to beat.
