Metal Slug 4 is on the UsuArcade coming-soon list. Once it lands in the arcade, it will play as online two-player co-op: you on your phone or PC, your friend on theirs, in the same game and in real time.
Metal Slug 4 hit in 2002, when the series was already a legend in arcades and on every Neo Geo cabinet tucked into the back of a pizza place. It keeps everything that makes the series great: gorgeous hand-drawn sprites, goofy humor and two-player run-and-gun mayhem where the whole screen keeps blowing up.
History
It was the first entry made outside the original team, developed by Korea's Mega Enterprise and Noise Factory during a rough stretch for SNK, which gives it a flavor all its own.
This one introduces two new soldiers, Trevor Spacey and Nadia Cassel, fighting alongside veterans Marco and Fio. The bad guys are the Amadeus Syndicate, a terrorist outfit plotting a worldwide cyberattack. Longtime fans point out it reuses a lot of enemies and art from earlier games, but it's still Metal Slug through and through.
How to play
Push right, shooting, jumping and tossing grenades. Rescuing POWs earns you new weapons like the heavy machine gun or the flamethrower, plus bonus points.
Along the way you can hop into the famous Slug vehicles, which soak up some hits and pack their own cannon. When one's about to blow, bail out in time. Every mission ends with a massive boss whose attack patterns you'll need to learn.

- Trevor and Nadia debut here; Tarma and Eri aren't playable in this one.
- It was the first game in the series developed by studios outside the original team.
